The Metabolomics Africa Center of Excellence Project is an ambitious infrastructure-driven initiative aimed at transforming Africa’s capacity for high-impact bioscience research, especially in metabolomics and other -omics disciplines. Situated in Lagos, Nigeria, the Center will serve as a regional hub for advanced research, education, and industry collaboration. It is designed to host world-class instruments such as LC-MS systems and to offer services ranging from molecular profiling and diagnostics to collaborative research with global partners.
The Center of Excellence will bridge the gap between scientific talent and infrastructure in Africa by offering access to cutting-edge tools and training programs for researchers, students, and industry professionals. It will also house the African Metabolome Database project, a flagship initiative to build the largest ethnically relevant dataset in Africa—fueling discoveries in personalized medicine, disease biomarker discovery, agriculture, and pharmacogenomics.
This center is not just a building—it is a strategic engine for Africa’s health and innovation future. With a focus on training, data equity, and collaborative science, the Center of Excellence will catalyze a new era of African leadership in life sciences, while attracting investment, fostering regional collaboration, and enhancing the continent’s contributions to global research.
